Baby Squirrels

DAY 49. Scissors' Secret
Wednesday, 4 September 2002

I moved the cage outdoors today. It's next to the back door, and protected with a shade sheet that Jacob stapled to the roofline.

I had a scare today. Only two squirrels were in the cage! Fifteen minutes later, I found Scissors... in the very shallow drawer at the bottom of the cage! She found a secret place that only she can squeeze into. Every time I took her out, she climbed back into her hiding place.

Blueberries are a big hit! Especially with Rock and Paper. They are clearly able to see well now. They spotted dropped blueberries quite easily. Yesterday I gave them fresh corn, which was also a popular food.

Rock can run up and down the wire cage. Today Scissors learned how to do it too! All three are becoming frightened of movement and noises. Safety lies in avoiding danger, and everything seems dangerous to a squirrel who is just learning to see and move!

Visit the squirrels tomorrow.

Visit them yesterday.
