Bizarre -True- Stories

MD's versus PhD's:
a story that might be true.

When I worked in an academic research lab in the Stanford School of Medicine, this was our favorite tale . . .
Three MD's and three PhD's were travelling to a conference by train. The three MD's each bought a ticket for the train. The three PhD's bought only a single ticket. The MD's were curious about this. They walked over to the PhD's and asked, "How are all three of you getting to the conference on a single ticket?" "Watch and you will learn," replied the PhD's.

When the train pulled into the station, the three MD's boarded and sat in three adjacent seats. The three PhD's all piled into a restroom and closed the door. The conductor came through the train and stopped by the MD's. "Tickets please." The MD's turned over their tickets. "Thank you." Then the conductor tapped on the restroom door. "Ticket please." The door opened a tiny crack, one hand slipped out and handed the ticket to the conductor. "Thank you."

The three MD's thought this was a pretty neat trick, so after the conference, they returned to the train station and bought only one ticket. But the three PhD's didn't buy any tickets! The MD's were stumped by this. They walked over to the PhD's and asked, "How are all three of you getting home without any tickets at all?" "Watch and you will learn," replied the PhD's.

When the train pulled into the station, the three MD's all piled into a restroom and closed the door. The three PhD's climbed into another restroom and closed the door. Once the train was underway, the door to the PhD's bathroom opened a tiny crack and one PhD emerged. The PhD walked over to the bathroom containing the MD's, tapped on the door and said, "Ticket please."
